Cat Sampler

For me, I thought the 1972-4 era was the best, with the simple Fripp/Wetton/Bruford trio from "Red" being the best, a really tight unit. The 1981-84 lineup was awesome, too, but only 'Discipline" truly lived up to the Fripp/Bruford/Levin/Belew potential.
Favorite albums: "Red", "Larks' Tongues in Aspic", "Discipline", "The Power to Believe". I also have a soft spot for he quirky "In the Wake of Poseidon" and "Lizard". The only albums I'm not thrilled about are "Islands" and "Beat", but even they have their good stuff.. "In the Court of the Crimson King" is excellent, but criminally overrated, even without that "Moonchild" weak-link song.
Favorite songs: too many to list but here's a sampler: "Epitaph", "Cat Food/Groon", "The Sailor's Tale", "Fracture", "One More Red Nightmare", "Thela Hun Ginjeet", "Satori in Tangier", "B'Boom/THRAK", "The Power to Believe, Part III", "VROOOM VROOOM", all the "Larks Tongues in Aspic" versions, I-IV.
It's hard to decided which lineup I appreciate, since each had their own specialties. I thought the Fripp/Bruford/Levin/Belew lineup had showcased an excellent musicianship, but only "Discipline" succeeded to output their potential, as you have stated. The 1972-74 was superb too.
My favourite albums are "Red," "Discipline," "Lark's Tongue in Aspic," "Starless and Bible Black," "Lizard," and of course "In the Court of the Crimson King," it deserves the recognition for the template of progressive rock. I haven't got "The Power to Believe," yet, but I will soon.
Favourite songs? There's so many!
