I'm just starting out doing machine applique and was wondering what stitch I should use.
I like the look of the stitch where the stitches are close together kind of like this : IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Someone told me you use a zig-zag stitch for this and ajust the stitch length and width however when I did this the thread all gather and knotted at the back.
I have a few quilting stitches on my machine but don't really like the look of them, they mostly look like: LLLLLLLLLLLLLL
Any ideas?
You're getting some good advice here. I would also suggest lowering the top tension to 3. Dont adjust the bobbin tension, it is not necessary. The length of the zig zag will not work on 0, so make it 0.5 - 1.0. If its on 0, the machine won't feed. Try this, you should be fine. I find stabilizer (like tear-away or vilene) behind the fabric makes the stitch look nicer. Happy Sewing!
