I've never cross stitched before, but why cant you just use pencil to draw the outline of your design and then cross stitch in it? For example i have a bookmark cross stitch fabric, cant i just draw the outline of my pattern directly onto it, then stitch it? :p
Yep! People do it all the time. The stitching will cover it anyway...
