Scrap Caddy
Posted in cross stitch on 03/26/2010 04:15 am by adminHard Disk question ......?
When scrapping an old PC recently, I salvaged the old hard disc, put it a caddy and now use it as en external storage drive. But of course it still contains all of the old programs and operating system for the old computer. Advice appreciated as to how I format it to provide full storage space etc. Do I need a formatting program? What's the best way to go about this? Cheers ..........
I am running Vista ..
Real simple, after You've taken off everthing You want to keep from it for files ...
Go to start, control panel, adminitrative tools, computer management, disk management.
You'll see the drives listed there, right-click the external drive and delete the partition. Reboot the system, then go back there and re-create a new partition or a couple of them, whatever You prefer.
Make the new partition(s) NTFS format, with an allocation size of 16k. You'll see an option to format the new partitions .in the same series of steps, go ahead and do it.
Good Luck!.
