Rayon Hand
Posted in cross stitch on 07/04/2010 10:38 pm by adminStupid Rayon Keeps Shrinking!!! Help!?
I have quite a few rayon shirts and dresses. They are all very nice and i love the fabric... until i wash it. I wash it in cold like it says on the tag.On a hand wash cycle. They always come out very short after being washed. I don't put them in the dryer at all, just let them air dry. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? I'm tired of paying lots of money for clothes that don't fit after simply getting wet!
Rayons, (depending on the weave) always shrink more or less and always come out more stiff. The best way to keep them nice is to have them dry cleaned. I am not joking. If you insist on washing them at home, you are going to have to stretch them as they are drying CAREFULLY since rayon tears easily when wet. Stretch all the seams first then before they are completely dry, start to iron them on medium with lots of steam. The ironing should be done so as the fabric gets stretched with the movement of the iron. Always use fabric softener with rayon if you want to take this route. If not, again, believe me, they come out best and last the longest when done at the dry cleaners.
