Also, which version would be more effective. since alcohol is a depressant, I wonder if the version without alcohol would be better in the long term to help relieve anxiety.
basic extracts of herbal, or dyes, are made by soaking an herb in a menstruum (Like alcohol, glycerin or cider vinegar apple) for several weeks. Each menstruum extracts different properties of plants. The alcohol is typically used in extracts contains a certain percentage of water and alcohol (100 proof vodka is 50% each) that extracts to contain water and constituents soluble in alcohol. It also acts as a natural preservative. Without alcohol-based extracts on the market are usually made with glycerin. These extracts are not very powerful, requiring more use. There are many components of the plant that are simply not well extracted in glycerin, hence a large dose may have a minimal effect. Do not worry about the alcohol content of alcohol extracts. A dropperfull (approx. 30 drops) has about the same alcohol content as a ripe banana. If it is still too much for you, just put the drops in warm water for several minutes before take, because the heat will evaporate more alcohol. If you are looking for the best quality extract passiflora there, I would recommend a fresh herb tincture made with 50% alcohol at a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2.
