Hi everyone , i have an 8 week old kitten called dagonet , i have never owned one before and i would like some advise , at night time can i leave the kitten on his own in the front room ... im also worried he will go to near the fire please advise
i have a wood burning stove so it would be kinda hard
the thing is i haven't got a spare room
I agree with Ocimom. A kitten shouldn't be left unsupervised as they can eat something and choke/suffocate on it like plastic, electric cords, string, etc. I have a 1 yr old and a 4 1/2 mo old. They are both closed in their room when I am not at home. If the 1 yr old were to get out, I wouldn't be as panicked as I would if the 4 mo old were to get out. The 1 yr old knows better whereas the 4 1/2 mo old would do or eat things that may be harmful. I try my best to keep my house cat-safe but I could always overlook or forget something. It's best to keep the cat closed up in a cat-safe room when no one is home. An 8 week old should definitely not have run of the house.
Edit: You don't need a spare room. If you're able to lock him up in your room, that would work. Just make your room safe so that there is no accessible plastic, strings, coins, or anything else the kitten could die from. You may have to purchase cord covers for your electrical cords. I am lucky enough to have cats that aren't interested in cords.
