Going on a cruise going to start at san juan and other islands St. Thomas etc. any cheap ideas on what to do.?

Also to see st. Kits Dominica , Antigua, St Lucia. Very low budget activities. Like to snorkel and possibly para sailing. can you help with some good sights/ideas?

We lived on St. Thomas for a year, and St. John for a month. 2006/2007 On St. Thomas the cheapest thing you can do is park your butt on Coki Beach. There is a WONDERFUL woman (a rasta woman) named Sasha. She works at the "bar". She will bring you drinks, she has been growing her dread locks out since the 70's. She is a bar tender of sorts. She will braid your hair if you want her too for a few bucks. YOU HAVE TO TRY A PATTAY AND A JOHHNY CAKE (with out cheese)!!! I RECOMMEND THE BEEF Pattay. IT IS WONDERFUL CHEAP YUMMY GOODNESS!!! ESPECIALLY AT SASHA'S BAR. (THE GREEN BUILDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BEACH) You can also go to coral world. It is at the end of Coki Beach. You can see parrots, fish, sting rays. You can even pet the stink rays in a tank. They also have shark feeding times and you can pet those as well. You can feed the parrots too. They have a large white building sticking out of the water. You can walk down into it and see the fish out in the Ocean. It is SOOOO COOOOL! A little humid in there, but worth it. It's not to expensive. My favorite exhibit in the park is the "night time" exhibit. They have this room that has florescent lights in there to show you different coral and fish that "glow" in the dark. You can also see a puffer fish up close. Their eyes look like Opals. There are a few tents set up on the beach to shop at and AWESOME Snorkeling. Stay along the rock walls on either side. That is where the best snorkeling is. You can also feed the "sergeant majors". The yellow and black fish. They eat dog food, or... anything else you want to give them. They also have other activities that you can do. Like put on this weird helmet thing and walk under the water attached to an airline to breath. The people in the underwater observatory can watch you. It's really fun! They have discounted prices at the gate to buy into doing that. When we moved back stateside in 2007, they had just approved to put sea lions in. It pissed the locals off. The entire point of Coral world is to show case the island's natural beauty and habituates. Sea lions are nasty and not indigenous to the area. Their feces pollute the local area. But I am unsure if they finished the exhibit. IT would have been WAY better if they would have put in a dolphin exhibit. We have those down there. But we were told that it is hard to be approved to have dolphins in a park. So that would be best for you I feel. Sit on the beach. Snorkel. Coral world. And since you buy a Coral world pass, you can use their showers to wash the soft white sand off of your feet and butt! lol You could go to Magens bay. But there is nothing there in the way of snorkeling. But they won't tell you that when they rent you the gear. We use to sit on the beach and giggle at the tourists that would rent the stuff and come back to the beach an hour later looking defeated. There is NOTHING BUT SAND for almost a mile out. YOu may get an occasional turtle, or a bunch of tiny fish (hard headed silver sides) that aren't pretty. But that's IT. Magens bay is suppose to be "romantic" it is in the shape of a heart, but you can't see that unless you are up at the look out at the edge of the beach on the other side of the island looking down. The beach is 1 mile long and 2 miles inland. Unfortunately it is also the beach that the... rather large... and older... people go. So no eye candy if you know what I mean also if you DO go to Magens bay, stop at "udder delight". It's on your right on the way down to the beach. They have hand made ice cream made right on site. Some even have alcohol in them. AND if you are there for a friday night, Indigo's is an Amazing restaurant up the hill from Magens bay. EVERY FRIDAY they have $19.95 dinner of prime rib and half a carribean lobster (carribean lobsters are HUGE, so half a lobster is a lot of food.) and you also get a lot of sides, such as mashed potatoes and others. It is so much food my wife and I would split it.

It is the most awesome burger you will EVER eat. I'm not even CLOSE to kidding. My brother came down to visit us, and STILL talks about that burger. lol St. Thomas is KNOWN for it's shopping in town. BUT it's expensive. So since you are looking for cheap, I wouldn't go there. And since you will probably only be there for a few hours, I wouldn't even bother going to St. John. A lot of people do, but the drive is long, the ferry ride is even longer and the wait for the taxi to fill up is long and that leaves you very little time to go to the beaches. But if you do hawks nest is best. THe coral is only 4-7 feet down so it's great for pictures with underwater camera's. EIther digital or disposable. But then keep in mind you still have to find a taxi (which is actually a truck with seats in it) to take you BACK to the Ferry which stop running around 530-7pm depending on time of year, THEN get back ON another Taxi and rush back to the ships. It's also $21 a person. Across the parking lot you can get a tattoo. lol. It's a little scary. I went up it once, and it was shaky, noisy and I just didn't feel safe. AT ALL. But at the top is the PERFECT place to get a photo of "town" (which is what the locals call it) You can see the ships below and town beyond. But don't bother going up if it's cloudy or rainy. You can't get a good picture. You can see Puerto rico in the distance on a really clear day. And you can see a bird show. The "bird lady" does a free bird show a few times a day. But that is what she does for a living, so it would be nice to tip her or buy stuff from her shop that she has next to it. She has trained the birds to ride a bike across a wire. NO KIDDING! and skate and to play basket ball... sort of. So that is what I would reccoment. If you want get off the ship and hit the sky ride if you want to do that for $21 each. The bird lady does a bird show at 10:30am. That is really cool... THEN take a taxi to Coki Beach. You'd get there around noon or so. Eat a Pattay for lunch. It's cheap, filling and yummy. Then go to Coral world next to the beach. $21 a person, THen go to Coki Beach for snorkeling Free. Then back to the boat. So you would spend $42 a person for the day. And the food would cost you around $15 for 2 Pattay's and 2 Johnny cakes. Is that cheap enough? ... but if you can... I still say go to Indigo's to eat... And tell Sasha Hello for us! We didn't get to see her before we left. oh... warning... the rasta's will try and sell you drugs. DON'T DO IT. IT's usually a police officer that wants to get his ticket quota in. Also, the caribbean is an entirely different culture. YOU HAVE TO SAY GOOD MORNING, GOOD AFTER NOON, GOOD EVENING, AND GOOD NIGHT. IT IS TIME SPECIFIC. IF YOU ARE OFF FROM MORNING TO AFTERNOON BY EVEN 5 MINUTES THEY GET PISSED AND CORRECT YOU. IF YOU ARE POLITE AND USE THESE AS GREETINGS YOU WILL GET DISCOUNTS AND TREATED BETTER. THEY ASSUME YOU ARE A LOCAL IF YOU USE THEM. AND USE THEM AS A GREETING, NOT AS A GOOD BUY. WHEN YOU BOARD THE TAXI SAY 'GOOD MORNING (OR WHAT EVER) TO THE DRIVER' HE WILL THEN SMILE. HE MAKES HIS OWN PRICING FOR HIS TAXI. SO YOU MAY SCORE A DISCOUNT FOR DOING THIS SIMPLE THING. BEFORE YOU BUY A TICKET, BEFORE YOU ORDER YOUR FOOD, AS YOU ENTER A SHOP OR TENT, (EVEN IF YOU DON'T SEE THE OWNER OR WORKER, THEY ARE NEAR BY SOMEWHERE AND WILL RESPOND) BEFORE YOU WIPE YOUR BUTT.
