At what age did you put your baby down for only one nap during the day?

Could you also give me a schedule of a typical day (time baby woke up in the morning, went for nap, woke up from nap and went to bed for the night). Any other helpful hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Each baby's schedule is different, but here was my son's(he wasn't a good napper and not typical). Around 4 months is when he started getting more predictable with naps. He would go down for his first nap sometime between 9 and 10am, he would sleep 45 min-1hr. Then go down for a second nap around 2pm and would sleep another 45min-1 hr....which is not long at all! They're suppose to be napping 1.5 - 2 hrs at a time. However, he went to bed early, like 5:30-6pm and would sleep very good at night. He also cut his morning nap out around 10 months, which is very early....they usually move to one nap around 18 months. He is now 20 months and takes one, 1 hour nap a day(my lunch break!!!)but goes to bed between 6:30-7 and is out all night.

One helpful hint, if you have a bad napper like I did, is to put him down at the very first hint of tired...the first yawn, rubbing of eyes, staring etc. Don't wait in order to keep him "on schedule" that just makes them overly-tired and then it's harder to get them to wind down at all! Also, don't listen to people who say, "just keep him up longer during the day so they'll sleep better at night." Totally has the opposite effect! Also, if your kid is a bad napper, don't be afraid to move the bedtime up...even if you think it's way too early and he'll never sleep the night (I put my son down as early as 5:30pm sometimes and he was fine!). I read every single sleep book out there and the only one that helped was, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" so I recommend reading that. Good luck!
